On a personal note:
Who says no white after Labor Day? Happy Labor Day! If you’re an etiquette expert, you’re aware this is the last day of the year you’re supposed to wear white.
Traditionally, wearing white after Labor Day has been a major fashion faux pas. But historians have long debated why it was unacceptable to wear white at any other time.
It most likely dates back to the mid-20th century, when well-to-do city dwellers would leave their urban life for their summer homes, often pre-air conditioning. The uniform of choice for those leaving on summer vacation was white, airy fabrics.
Labor Day was the generally accepted marker of the end of summer, since it was when people returned to the city.
The rule became hard and fast around the 1950s, when--along with many other etiquette rules--these rules were propagated by the middle class as a way to prevent lower classes from gaining upward mobility. I say wear white whenever you want, people. If it looks good in July, it's gonna look good in November.
